One of the great perks of working from home is being able to be more relaxed and comfortable in our work attire.  Yes, it’s even been the topic of convo during Twitter chats with my smGIRLfriends! (if you’re on Twitter, join in weekdays at noon est!)  One day it was a show of hands for those of us working in our PJs, and there were plenty of us.  We agreed, being an entrepreneur definitely has it’s perks!

I wonder how many times you jump out of bed, throw on the sweats (or maybe a little Lululemon), rock a ponytail or ball cap and dive head first into work?  It really is a luxury to be able to not have to fuss every day over what to wear, bad hair days, dry cleaning, and the like.

But, it also puts you at a bit of a disadvantage.

Isn’t it true, when you dress up, you just feel different?  Better…  Like you can rock the world and then some?  Sometimes when you’ve spent too much time in sweats, you can begin to feel (dare I say) grungy and less than fabulous. I know when I’m dressed to meet with a client, there’s a whole lot of shazam going on, and I feel like a million bucks!  I walk different, talk different and feel incredible!

Too much dressing down, and a girl can start to feel, well – blah.  And feeling blah infuses into your approach in business – from the tone of your voice to how you present yourself.  Remember the little exercise I talked about in one of my recent posts?  A perfect example.  (read it here if you missed it).

Too much of a good thing…

I think we appreciate what we have even more if we don’t have it all the time.  When it becomes ‘everyday’, it loses it’s lustre.  Kind of like being able to sleep in only once in awhile – when it’s a luxury it feels oh so amazing!

So let’s kick things up a notch!

Always be prepared!  How would you feel if you got a call right now and had to be ready for an important client meeting in, say, 1 hour from now?  Did you just freak out?  Could you be ready?
Make sure to always have at least 2 great outfits ready to go at a moments notice.  And not just any outfits, noooo!  I’m talking about ones that fit impeccably, look amazing on you, and make you feel like a million bucks.  Have one for daytime and one for evening events. Don’t stop being prepared just because your daily routine no longer involves dressing up!  Be sure to have every detail of the outfit together and ready to roll (check for missing buttons, sagging hemlines, and have accessories at hand).

Avoid panic attacks!  Be sure to try on those outfits about once a month to make sure you still like them, that they still look incredible and yes, that they still fit!  Panic strikes if you assume something will fit, and you find out in the moment you need it, that it doesn’t!  Or, all of a sudden that dress whose color you once deemed eye-catching, now seems more like an eyesore.

Feel fab more often!   Set 1 – 2 days a week where you dress up just because, and watch how amazing it makes you feel, and how different you act, even if you’re just at home on calls or working on the computer!

Stay beautiful, even if no one is watching.  Finally, don’t neglect or lag behind in your beauty routine!  Roots that are showing, or a chipped manicure undermine your confidence and your business image.  Keep well groomed at all times – you never know when that chance meeting might come your way and girl, you want to be your best!

All of these things put in practice will not only give you a greater appreciation for that great benefit of being an entrepreneur, but will keep you at the top of your game feeling fab, confident, and ready to rock the world!
